And Roth Makes Seven…

I've been asked by some people to write down my thoughts on the WI-08 GOP Primary, but I won't for a while.  First off is I don't know if this is all the candidates we are going to see yet. Rumors about a possible candidacy by former Green Bay Mayor (and current Green Bay Chamber of Commerce President) Paul Jadin may get in and I'd like to hold off until January to see if that happens for a number of reasons.

The first is what will Jadin name the growth from his ass that will be Guy Zima if he were to run.  Zima's a bulldog of a city alderman in Green Bay and the lead voice in trying to nail Jadin for responsibility in the debacle which is/was the City of Green Bay's deal with Younkers.  Secondly, I just want to hear what "The Recess Supervisor" thinks of this new addition to the race, especially when I have it on good authority that a certain budget analyst at the Heritage Foundation was going to run in WI-08 if Roth didn't.  Seems the two of them are friends or something...

Anyway, welcome to a crowded primary Assemblyman Roger Roth.

State Rep. Roger Roth, a Republican from Appleton, has sent out a fundraising appeal announcing his intention to seek the GOP nomination to take on U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen in the 8th CD.

Under a header that reads "Roger Roth for Congress," the letter blasts Democrats for taking the United States down the wrong path.

"In 2010 we will decide if our nation can be preserved as a beacon of hope to the world or if it will continue on a certain path toward socialism and economic stagnation," Roth says in the letter.

"Our founding fathers were wise. They were faithful in giving to us a political and economic system that has become the envy of the world. Today this system is under a great attack from within.

"This attack comes from the liberal elite who believe that spending and wasting massive amounts of money while going ever deeper in debt is the answer to every problem. You and I know that we are in serious trouble. Borrowing, taxing and incessant spending is only digging a deeper economic hole."

Roth is in his second term in the Assembly. A member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, he recently returned from a mission to Iraq.

The Federal Elections Commission said Thursday it hadn't yet received a registration statement from Roth

Roth joins a crowded GOP primary field which includes former state Rep. Terri McCormick, who Roth succeeded in the Assembly.

Roth has also set up a Web site for his congressional run at www.rothforcongress.com/

On a short-term matter, this announcement probably helps Roofing Company Owner Reid Ribble the most.  With Roth in, he takes away "The Establishment Candidate label" (if such a label exists in a seven-way primary) from Ribble and takes the pressure of the bulls-eye off him and onto Roth now since many people -- myself included -- likely view Roth as the first "real choice" to enter the race.

Best of luck to all candidates in the coming year.

Politely, can we please be mature decision-making adults and stop worrying about who has had a good job, owned a company, served in office already, and other successful things that might qualify someone to lead. Our suspicion of success and logical creditials makes us look backwards. It's like the Democrats have re-programed us to think like them.

Why is there a picture of the US Supreme Court on his Web site? Are there no pics of the...oh, I don't know....Capitol??

Yeah, I saw that post at Playground Politics too.

    Can be easily remedied.

Roger Roth popped into a meeting I was sitting in on this evening. *_VERY_* impressive, I was not considering supporting him at all hoping for him to gain more experience but there is something about him. I don't know if I'll support him but he did a good job of moving me in that direction.
  • Haha, I do communicate with a guy from Heritage from time to time. If one could translate one's fantasy baseball skills to Congress, he would be the greatest Congressman Wisconsin has ever seen.

I think Paul Jadin has a very good job at the Chamber of Commerce, a factor that's none too small.

Personally, I'm glad to see Roger running. That field desperately needs a frontrunner to get some of the chaff out of the way. And plus, we will all now get the pleasure of watching Terri McCormick's head explode for the second time in four years. If only the general public could have been afforded a front row seat to the Terri McCormick show that put itself on such unfortunate display during her legislative tenure...

Paul Jadin is a RHINO!!!! Stay at the chamber Paul. As far as the Younkers deal, I have it on very good authority that Jadiin and current mayor Schmidt are involved up to their eyeballs in this, and yes Guy Zima is a bull dog on this issue. Don't know if you remember (I do because I'm old enough - LOL) but Zima fought tooth and nail to stop the downtown mall years and years ago. He said it was the wrong place to put a shopping mall. Does anyone remember GREGBY. Seems he was proven right but I've never heard him say "I told you so".
I heard the rumor Roth was likely to run last summer but then his decision was delayed by his call up with his national guard unit. I love Roger and think he would be an excellent representative for the people of the 8th CD. But -- the left could paint him as a possible part-time representative because he's been called up twice during his time in the State Assembly, went to Iraq and now his recent assignment. The left plays hard and dirty and would do something like that. I can just see the ad now "where is Roger when you need him". Of course they would show themselves for the scum they are by attacking him for his service to his country and military service. Years ago, Toby Roth knocked on my door, introduced himself and put a yard sign up - it was his 1st run for congress. Roger has a brother just waiting in the wings, possibly ready to jump into local or state politics too.

Everyone should go read the hatch act. Roth is prohibited from holding any office ( state rep included) while in the reserves. Another interesting law not being inforced and deliberately ignored by Roth. Do we have yet another example of a law maker ignoring the law.

Maybe you should read and understand the Hatch Act. As a member of the Wisconsin Air Guard, Roger is a Title 32 member of the Armed Forces which means he is an active member of the Reserve or Guard. Title 10 service members are prohibited from holding partisan elected office, a member of the active military can serve in non partisan offices.

When Roth was activated for his tours in Iraq, he could have requested to be released due to his position in the assembly, he was placed on Title 10 orders and at that point he could no longer work on legislative issues. He asked Rep Dean Kaufart and Sen Mike Ellis to assist his constituents while he was away.

Lastly, Roger is an enlisted member of the Guard, not a commissioned officer, therefore he holds no "office" in the military.

As having once been subject to the Hatch Act, I can say with certainty,
you're talking out of your ass.
