Barrett Will Run for Governor
Well, for those wanting to go after me for having "a bad source" from info I was told six weeks ago, if it's any plus, my source's gonna be wrong about where I told him where I'll probably be working.
(Sorry bud.)
Mayor Tom Barrett will announce this weekend that he is running for governor, the Journal Sentinel has learned.
"You would not be inaccurate to write that," a top adviser to the two-term mayor said today.
A second Milwaukee Democrat who has firsthand knowledge of Barrett's plans said the mayor will be running to try to replace Gov. Jim Doyle, who announced earlier that he would not seek a third term.
Barrett is expected to reveal his plans publicly at noon Sunday, ending three months of pondering and speculation.
Steve Chernof, Barrett's finance chairman, declined to confirm or deny what the mayor might say at the press event Sunday.
By entering the race, Barrett will become the only major Democrat in the field, boasting a campaign war chest and name recognition that could keep out other candidates.
Things to ponder:
1) Will the media and political pundits talk about "the need for a Democratic primary" like they did with "the need of a GOP primary" when Doyle was still in the race?
2) Beyond liberal bloggers, does anyone seriously think Scott Walker or Mark Neumann is actually scared by this change in the race?
3) If the Doyle Machine does indeed make Barrett "Its Candidate," then RPW, the Walker Campaign, the Neumann Campaign, talk radio, and other bloggers are more than within their right to call the Barrett Campaign, "the Quest for Doyle's Third Term."
