Leftist Crank Loses Press Credentials

Given their track record, I’m shocked to discover that the “Wisconsin Citizen Media Cooperative” was given press credentials at the state Capitol in Madison to begin with.

You’d think they would have gotten them yanked last summer after the “Walker Love Child” story blew up in their face last year.

I’m speculating here, but given their tightness to the protest crowd, one wonders if “Segway Boy’s” attack on Gwen Guenther had more to do with WCMC maintaining its access than just about young Jeremy being a pompous jackass.

Well, they’re in the news again and Channel 27 in Madison has the details.

A spokesperson for state senate majority leader Scott Fitzgerald said a journalist made an obscene gesture at a republican senator in the midst of contentious debate Wednesday over a mining bill, and her reporting credential was revoked.

Spokesperson Tom Evenson told 27 News the action in the Senate chamber by Nicole Schulte of Wisconsin Citizens Media Cooperative violates established standards for credentialed media at the state capitol.

Evenson said Schulte also recorded conversations by senators, after they left the senate floor and were in areas where conversations are considered private.

The credentialing of journalists covering the state legislature was recently transferred to legislative leaders, with Fitzgerald having authority to approve, reject and revoke credentials related to the senate.

27 News has been unable to reach Schulte, or a representative of the cooperative for comment on her ouster. The revocation of Schulte’s credential can be appealed.

Wasn’t aware that they changed the rules regarding the handing out of press credentials, but given the environment, I’m not surprised by the rules change.

In a follow-up to Channel 27, Schulte admits to doing the gesture and that it was provoked by State Sen. Glenn Grothman.

(One expects to find out the Cap Times will be reaching out to hire her sometime next week.)
