Brother Bob Steps Down at Messmer

Sad news, because Brother Bob Smith is one of the true advocates not just for school choice because his school benefits, but because he honestly wants to make the personal futures of his students better.

His leadership will be missed, but his health concerns are very real.  Get well soon.

Brother Bob Smith, longtime president and CEO of Messmer Catholic Schools, announced his resignation Thursday.

Smith has had complications after undergoing neck and spine surgery three years ago and indicated he now faces further surgery, the head of the three-campus, 1,600-student institution said in a letter to students and their families, faculty, staff and alumni.

This was a decision that did not come easily,” Smith said.

At the same time, it is important that I follow the advice I have given to others, and in considering everything, it is best to make this change now.”

Smith, a member of the Franciscan Order of Capuchins, was appointed principal of Messmer High School in 1987 and CEO of Messmer Catholic Schools in 1995.
