Hovde Gets Ready to Make His Entrance

Never met the guy, but have met many who will be running his campaign.  Best of luck to them all.

Republican party insiders tell TODAY’S TMJ4 that wealthy finance entrepreneur Eric Hovde will enter the campaign for US Senate on Thursday. The political newcomer will seek the seat to be vacated by retiring Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin).

This banking executive has already hired staffers from other Wisconsin Republicans. Sources said Hovde will position himself as a political outsider taking on career politicians.

In addition to his success running banks and investment firms, Hovde presides over a foundation that builds shelter for at-risk children in impoverished countries. They are called Hovde Houses.

One of the other great things about having the foundation is how it’s tied into to the rest of my companies and my employees,” Hovde says in a video posted by the foundation.

Hovde joins a crowded Republican race that includes former governor Tommy Thompson.

It’s said that Hovde’s going to bring a lot of his own money into this race.  That’s something I definitely believe.

The real question is will he be seen as another coming of Ron Johnson before the GOP base voter in Wisconsin, or as a carpetbagger who only returned to his home state because he sees an opportunity to become a U.S. Senator.

I’m willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but at this point I’m thinking two things…
    1) Mark Neumann is the most conservative, and endorsements from Jim DeMint and Rand Paul certainly don’t hurt (IMHO)
    2) The “carpetbagger” tag will certainly be tough to elude.

Is it too early to have a favorite?  I guess I’ve already tipped my hand, but at least I’m willing to listen.
